We’d run a business pension scheme for many years, but when auto enrolment was introduced we needed to open up the scheme to more of our employees.
We weren’t getting a great deal of advice on the scheme and we felt that we needed to do more for our people by helping them to understand the best thing to do with their pensions.
I’d known of HDA for some time. They are well known for looking after workplace pension schemes, so they were our first port of call. We approached them and felt that not only did they offer a good solution, but they fitted well with how we operate.
HDA reviewed our pension scheme and gave recommendations on what needed to change. They went over and above this; helping us to introduce a salary sacrifice scheme. More importantly, they provide opportunities for our people to meet with qualified and experienced financial planners to discuss their finances during work time.
We feel that we’ve benefitted from their services as a firm, because if our people know we’re doing the best for them, hopefully they’ll do their best for us. It’s something that we can offer that other firms don’t, and that helps us to recruit and retain good people. We could have taken a low-cost option and gone directly to a pension provider, but it was important to us that our people had access to financial advice.
The feedback from our people has been very positive; they like knowing that they can talk to a financial planner as and when they feel the need. I’ve been so impressed that I’ve since recommended HDA to other local businesses, including our clients.
